If you have multiple domains and need to host them all under one account, you should really make sure that your current of future web hosting company can provide that option. Almost 99% of the time these days, you can buy a plan with any web host that offers multiple domain web hosting.

Our recommended top multiple domain web hosting provider is Bluehost, a large web hosting provider that has been in the industry for many years and has a reputation for fantastic support.

So what important factors do you need to consider when choosing a multiple domain hosting provider? Well you want to make sure that all your sites are online ALL the time, so at least 99.9% uptime guarantee is a must. This might seem like you’re looking for perfection, but these days, credible hosting providers rarely go down. If there is a power outage, the company should have backup generators, and if there is an overage in server usage, the company should have redundant servers in different locations. That being said, make sure that your hosting provider does not host all of your multiple domains in one server warehouse. These days, everything is going on the cloud, meaning that your files are likely being stored in different locations to serve your visitors.

For example, if you have a website for an online magazine, and both the magazine and server warehouse are located in New York, then if a visitor is coming to your site from say Russia, they should be getting the files from servers closer to their location rather than downloading from the New York servers. This is quite important to reduce your website load time, and keep your readers happy. Its especially important if you also take transactions from different parts of the world.

Another feature to look out for when purchasing multiple domain hosting account is how many MySQL Databases and Email Accounts you get. Why is this important? Well if you have 30 domain names and want them all hosted under one account, lets say all of them are WordPress built, then you need 30 separate MySQL Databases to support each WordPress site. You’d also want separate email accounts for each website, so these 2 features should be a big factor in deciding what hosting package to get.

Luckily the company we chose as our recommendation, Bluehost, provides unlimited domain hosting and unlimited databases & email accounts. Take a look here to signup and get started.

You can already host videos for free on websites like youtube.com and vimeo.com, but if you want to have something private or want to build your own video gallery website, then you need to first look for free web hosting in general.

The Doc is way ahead of you, check out this article on free website hosting to grab your free hosting account. You can then use the freely provided control panel admin area to install a free premade html template or create your own. Once that part is done, you can start uploading your videos for free! Aren’t you glad you came to this site

Remember that with free website hosting, whether it’s for videos or anything else, there are limitations in disk space and terms of what exactly you can do with the space.

A quick tip: If you signed up for free hosting and started adding your videos, and now you see your disk space limit getting closer, try to either compress your videos to save space or host them externally on youtube or vimeo, and then link back to them from your site.

You can get very creative when looking for the best free video hosting, if you have any questions, post a comment below and the Doc will help

Our Recommended Free FTP Hosting Sites

First of all, there is DriveHQ, a great large organization that offers free FTP storage hosting among many other things. Just like with an ftp application, you can drag and drop your files easily from your desktop to DriveHQ. Did I mention they have a software that you can download to easily take care of this without the need of a browser? Cool right?

Free FTP storage starts at 1 gig disk space, plenty to get started on, and you can always upgrade. Support is great, and remember its FREE so get started now!

As far as other recommendations, there are FTPToday.com, ZFTP.com, and FTPKey.com, but they all don’t match up with DriveHQ. The free plans offer alot less disk space, no FTP client software is included with any of these companies except DriveHQ, and the others also dont have folder sync capability! If you don’t mind these loss of features, do a review of the 4 companies and pick your place!

Free FTP Service

Complete FTP solution, setup in seconds. Client, Server and Hosting all included.

www.drivehq.co

The Doc was reading his daily blogs and noticed that oh no! Google has updated 40 different things in their Google ranking algorithm. Whats it mean for us?

Most importantly Google is changing the way they evaluates links. Links meaning the ones you need to get higher status on keyword rankings! How do these changes affect the rankings of your web pages?

Google announced the following:

“Link evaluation. We often use characteristics of links to help us figure out the topic of a linked page. We have changed the way in which we evaluate links; in particular, we are turning off a method of link analysis that we used for several years. We often re architect or turn off parts of our scoring in order to keep our system maintainable, clean and understandable.”

This message leaves lots of speculation as they’re not clear at all about what exactly they have changed, just saying its something that has been around for several years.

In addition to the changes above, Google announced many more changes. One of them is more coverage for related searches. The rest are a tweak to the categorizer for expanded sitelinks, less duplication in expanded sitelinks, more accurate detection of official pages, and improved local results and more.

This is basically another effort for Google to remove spammers and junky sites from high rankings, what do you think?

Most importantly, just contact your current web hosting company and explain the situation. Ask how long they expect their service to be down, and always make sure to keep your hosting company’s contact information nearby.
There are a few website backup steps you should take to protect your site:

First, keep an up-to-date copy of all your files. You can easily do this using a free FTP Client, and all you need to do is drag-and-drop files from your file server to your desktop folder!

Keep daily backups of your database(s). You can do this by logging into your cPanel account, and this file helps keep all your customers information that was used for the website to function.

Lastly, make sure to have control of the DNS (domain name server) for your domain. Why? If you have DNS control, you can instantly re-route your domain name to a new hosting company if needed to.

2. Now Just Change Chmod Settings!

When you click the tab, you will see that almost always the current file permission setting is 644. So now if you want to change the file permissions to 777, just select all the tabs! (Look below for final example)

Thats it! This is all you have to do to change your file permission mode to 777.
